Our first known Sims ancestor was William Symes of Charde in the country of Somerset in England. The date of his birth is unknown. He was granted arms in 1591, and received a pedigree in 1623.
(1) The arms are described as "azure, three scallops, or; crest, a demi-hind, rampant, and..."
(2) BERRY'S ENCYCLOPIED gives the crest, but does not say when it was granted.
William Symes married Elizabeth Hill, the daughter of Alice Clark and Robert Hill of Yarde in Somerset. The arms of Robert Hill are also in BERRY'S ENCYCLOPEDIA.
